Introduction In this paper, I chose Toward the 8th fire: The view from Oshkimaadziig Unity Camp by Karl Gardner and Richard Peters (Giibwanisi), Speaking truth to power: Indigenous storytelling as an act of living resistance by Aman Sium and Eric Ritskes and Refusal to forgive: Indigenous women’s love and rage by Rachel Flowers, as the academic papers to use in this assignment. The similarities, differences and whether I agree with these articles will be discussed in this paper. My response to how Canada should decolonized will be discussed as well. Stage One These articles collectively say Indigenous people are working on, building an allyship with settlers in order to help decolonize Canada. It also states indigenous people are working†¦show more content†¦Flowers (2015), and Gardner and Peters (2014) also state that indigenous colorization truth is highly important, and the truth needs to be shared and heard by the settlers. Differences Sium and Ritskes (2013), argued that indigenous people should be breaking colonization with academic articles through indigenous ways, one way is through story telling. Storytellers are important to indigenous culture, for their existence, survival, identity and connecting people and bonding the people together (Sium and Ritskes 2013). However, storytelling is also important to decolonization by, proving indigenous people had a way of life before colonizers, and acknowledgement of the sovereignty over their lands (Sium and Ritskes 2013). Gardner and Peters (2014), stated Oshkimaadziig has a camp that works to rebuild relationship with the land therefore rebuilding their way of life. They do this by fighting the governments restrictions of their land (through reservation), and their own government system not the system the government forced upon them (Gardner and Peters, 2014). The people running the camp are also working towards having healthy relationships with allies to help decolonize Canada (Gardner and Peters 2014). Gardner and Peters (2014), also discuss coexisting after decolonization with nonindigenous peoples.
